After completing 504 I feel like I've got so much more direction within my practice. I know exactly what I like and what I don't now, and I think having a really long time to work on a module has really helped this. Looking back at first year, I was aware that digital means of creating work wasn't for me, and that I swayed more towards analogue methods. Having dabbled in screen printing a little in first year and really enjoying it, i knew it was something i wanted to continue working at, but still lacked the confidence and knowledge to do so myself.
This module gave me the push that I needed in that direction. I have become far more confident in every aspect of print, and am happy to visit the print room whenever I can now.
504 also pushed me to work with After effects, which was completely new to me. I had many troubles and struggles with it, but I was left with something that wasn't completely terrible. I really want to get better at digital, but I hate just sitting at the computer for hours on end, I much prefer to be active when I'm working. I seem to get better ideas and I can visualise things in a much better way when I'm not just sat at a desk or a computer for long periods of time. I also procrastinate far too much, and the computer has way too many distractions for someone like me. If I'm in the print room, I'm printing. I love the whole process, from start to finish.
So to summarise, my digital skills still need improving, but I really want to focus on print more so in the future. I want to challenge myself and make mistakes and better them. I want to keep learning new techniques and developing as an analogue practitioner.
