| Where will I be in 5 years- first exercise of the day |
I am so glad I attended both days of the Easter programme, because it really made me realise some things about my potential future career. Ive always thought I wanted to start my own business after university, but this programme made me realise that I actually dont. I would much rather be employed, at least for the first few years out of university.
Why have I changed my mind?
-I don't know where I want to be based in this big beautiful world. If I started a business I would be grounded to one place for quite some time.
- Having your own business means you work all hours of the day. If I worked for someone I would probably work a normal week. I mean my mind would still be constantly creative, but not constantly stressed.
-I want experience in the industry before I set anything up.
-I want to travel and see what creative things are going on all over the world, so that when I do finally set something up, I can extract the amazing elements from all the places Ive visited.
The 5 year plan exercise got me really excited about the future. We then had to tell a small group about our plan. (These two days have actually been great for building confidence, presenting to people Ive never met.)
I really like the idea that the future can take me anywhere, and that as long as I can be creative Im open to anything.
The exercises really got us thinking about what we have to offer to potential employers, what kind of person we are, and how we have and can use our skills to our advantage. Really interesting and I think I learnt a lot about myself.
This test was interesting. I am definitely a people person, and I knew that. I definitely want to work with people, for the people. I want my work to help make a difference.
At the end of the day we had to do an elevator pitch to a group about our practice. By this point I wasn't really nervous. We each had to write what went well and one thing that we could improve for one another, and the feedback was really useful, and something I will look over and improve upon when I come to do my PPP presentation.
