Evaluation (See
guidance below for more information)
You are required to write a 500 word
evaluation of this module.
I have always found PPP to be an
extremely useful module, and I often realise this towards the end of each
year, when I reflect on everything as a whole. Because it feeds into
everything I do, I often find it comes subconsciously, but when focused, becomes
the most valuable module.
At the end of second year I still wasn’t
sure if I wanted to pursue a career in illustration, as I have never felt
overly confident with my practice, and never felt like I had any clear
direction. This year, this has completely changed. I have never felt so
inspired and ambitious to go after a job in the creative sector.
There have been certain events and research
methodologies this year that have led to this decision.
Understanding my practice and feeling
comfortable with it has been the best realisation. I always knew that I
wanted to create some form of positive social change with my work, but for
some reason I had never aligned this with documentary and reportage
illustration. Making this connection and immersing myself within this context
has really helped me to focus on my future as an illustrator.
This years exhibition as Colours May Vary
was a great experience of networking, building contacts and selling work. The
feedback I received was really promising, and gave me the ability to have a
little confidence in my work, which I have always lacked.
Attending Start up Wednesday’s and Career
Track Tuesday’s has not only informed certain creative decisions I have
started to make, but it has also given me the push I needed to seek the
things I want.
This years PPP sessions really encouraged
me to contact people, and the importance of this.
Visiting Warsaw in January really inspired
me, which made me determined to email design studios in search of an intern.
I will continue to pursue this, as I think it would enhance my practice and
give me professional experience in industry.
When I reflect on my practice as a whole,
I realise that my values are often at the heart of what I do, which is why I have
volunteered to do some creative work in Greece, for a charity that work with
refugees this summer. This has been the most exciting step forward for me,
because not only will I be striving toward positive social change through creativity,
but I will also be able to document what I do through illustration. This opens
up a variety of doors for me me as a practitioner.
I don’t want to limit my practice, which is
why I am consistently considering where my work fits and what I want it to
say, as well as where to take it. At the moment I have plenty of plans, but for
once, this doesn’t worry me. PPP has given me the confidence to talk passionately
about my work and on the whole I am proud of my development, both in my
practice and in my professionalism. I now feel confident in promoting the
values that matter to me, with the skills and tools available to me.
